Last evening, Drew, Dustin and I attended Ben Franklin Technology Partners’ Venture Idol. While we were too late to submit our case for inclusion in the main event, we did draw quite a crowd of potential investors, partners and the curious throughout the event. After successfully working her way through the crowd, one visitor asked if we were rock stars to which I responded its partly due to our application, but being close to the bar helps too. We generated plenty of interest with live demonstrations showing people the personalization tools we’ll be unveiling soon (allowing users to create their own personal schpaces, in separate tabs, by publishing content, photos, etc., all tied into our new contacts functionality). The photo shows, from right to left, myself, Drew, “Chip”, and Dustin. If you look closely, the monitor shows the next generation of schmedley and a mockup of a personal schpace.

I’m happy to announce that we’ve finally come across a “Web 2.0″ surveying and polling application that suits our needs…
PollDaddy - http://www.polldaddy.com.
It’s a really cool product that I know we’ll be making good use of.

So get ready, because we’re going to have LOTS of polls and surveys coming your way soon. This will help us get input from each and every one of YOU - the people who use schmedley - so that we can continue to build in the features and components that YOU want most.

We’ll be starting with this quick poll on social networking services. When we started building schmedley, we new we had to include “the big guys” (MySpace & Facebook) and Twitter. Now we’re ready to add some more schtuff, and we need your vote on what social networking tools would add more value or usefulness to schmedley…

Soon after our launch, it came to our attention that there are a lot of thumbnail screenshot services on the web (snap shots, websnapr, screenthumbs, thumbshots, thumbalizr, snapcasa, shrinktheweb, etc.) - and many of them do not provide a thumbnail of schmedley.com that is current. We noticed this after seeing more than a few thumbnails scattered around the web of our alpha-stage release (which isn’t nearly as cool-looking as our newly-released beta).

After some investigation, we discovered TONS of thumbnail screenshot service providers. Some had screenshots of our alpha. Some had screenshots of our “placeholder” pre-beta-launch countdown page. Even worse - some of them had “scrapers” that don’t seem to be advanced enough to take an accurate screenshot of a page like schmedley that is chock full of AJAXy Web 2.0 goodness.

So - we decided to make one…

Well, actually… we made three. This one is 500px wide x 320px high - our “medium” size.

For our friends in the media, and for all of those thumbnail screenshot services out there,
below are direct links to the three new screenshots we’ve created just for you…

small - (thumbnail size) - 250 x 160

medium - (shown above) - 500 x 320

large - (full size) - 1024 x 656
